| Plans for the 3rd Annual Earth Day Program Thursday, May 7th, 2009 PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES: The LaSalle County Parks Foundation has once again planned an eventful day for local 5th grade students. This year’s topics will be Stream Formation, Stream Ecology, Forest Succession and Tree Identification, as well as Prairie Plant Identification and Ecology. The Foundation will be implementing new topics at Earth Day from now on so students will be able to experience areas of the park that are rarely seen, except by horseback riders. WHAT TO BRING: Please be aware that this year’s program will involve a total of 2 miles of hiking over slopes of 20 degrees inclination. Please inform your students that they will need to come prepared by wearing old, play clothes and shoes, and a backpack equipped with pencil, notepad, reusable water bottle (filled), wet wipes (wash stations will not be provided in lower area by stream) and a non-refrigerated sack lunch. Classes will be responsible for taking their trash from lunch out with them to main parking lot where bins will be provided. RESERVATIONS: Teachers may contact Terry McCormick, Park Ranger no later than April 3rd, at: tjmpark@hughes.net. Please ensure that you have permission to attend from your school administrator. Attendance will be limited to 100 students. Please provide one adult per every ten students for safety. Buses should stay at the park for the duration of the program. Catlin Park is not equipped with appropriate facilities to protect/house a large number of people in severe weather. Please note that the rain date for this program will be on Thursday, May 14th, same time.
